Dark Eyes Verbascum

Behind Those Verbascum Dark Eyes

  • Gorgeous Creamy Yellow Flowers with Maroon Centers
  • Pollinator Friendly
  • Deer Tolerant
  • Blooms Late Spring

Take a bow then take a seat. Pat yourself on the back for planting this gorgeous little plant in your landscape. What a sight to behold and you won’t want to take your eyes off of her!

Verbascum Dark Eyes (Verbascum x 'Dark Eyes') is a compact perennial with an abundance of graceful spikes smothered with large creamy yellow flowers with maroon centers. The foliage is a beautiful grey-green held in a low rosette which offsets the flowers to perfection!

Dark Eyes performs best in full sun in average, dry to medium, well drained soil. She will tolerate poor soil, but it must be well drained. Planted in fertile soil will have this perennial growing taller which may require staking.

This little beauty is very useful and adaptable. Place her in your beds and borders, gravel gardens, cottage and wildlife gardens. She will look stunning in a container and in a vase for you to enjoy on your table.

Dark Eyes is drought tolerant once established. The deer seem to leave this plant alone. She will attract butterflies and hummingbirds so you will enjoy watching them flitter from flower to flower on those hot summer days. Remove the faded bloom spikes to encourage more buds.

In September, cut this perennial back to 3 inches. This will force new vegetative growth at the base which will make this plant stronger to hold all of the new gorgeous flowers that will appear in the spring.

This has a long bloom period starting in late spring to late summer, if properly deadheaded.

Be sure to add this little beauty from Nature Hills Nursery. You won’t regret it!
