Handling more sun than other Japanese Maples, especially in cooler growing zones. In warmer climates, does better in dappled sun and sites with afternoon shade. Red Dragon does need some protection from cold wind and summer drought. It thrives in moist well-drained soil but can tolerate a variety of soil conditions.
